Hawaiian Green Seat Turtles are fun, calm creatures exuding a relaxed spirit as they slowly scoot along the shorelines or glide through the water. In the Hawaiian language eye of the turtle is translated as kamakahonu. read more
Aloha shirts originated right here in Hawaii. If you are dressing up to head out, you grab your finest aloha shirt, your dress slippers, and you are ready to roll. It is thought that the aloha shirt as we know it today was originally created by Ellery Chun at King-Smith Clothiers and Dry Goods in Waikiki in the 1930’s. read more
Sometimes called “Sugarbush,” the Protea flower is named after the Greek god Proteus because, like the god, this flower takes on so many different forms. The flower has its origins in South Africa and Asia and was brought to Hawaii to be grown and exported in the exotic flower trade. read more
Honolulu Surf Riders is another great Hawaiiana painting from Mr. Charles Bartlett. Put on canvas around 1918, his painting shows four surfers catching a wave in Honolulu, presumably in Waikiki. read more
The road to Haleakala on Hawaii’s island of Maui is one of the steepest continuous roads in the United States. Starting at sea level and ending at over 10,000 feet over about 30 miles, the road winds through beach, towns, forest, high forest, and tundra. read more

The Jackson’s Chameleon (Trioceros jacksonii, subspecies xantholophus) is one of the more interesting lizards found in Hawaii. Native to Kenya and Tanzania, this African import was brought to Hawaii in the ’70’s to breed and export to the exotic pet trade. read more
