A gorgeous green Hawaiian honeycreeper called the Hawai’i ‘Amakihi rests on an ohia tree in the islands. The nectar of the ohia is one of the ‘Amakihi’s favorite foods.

This bright bird is only found on the islands of Hawaii, Maui, and Moloka’i. Sadly, many Hawaiian bird species disappear forever each year. The ‘Amakihi though, has been the most successful native Hawaiian bird population in the past 50 years and is reasonably stable.

This little bird about 4 inches long has a chirp that can be heard over a mile away. They can be found anywhere from sea level to upcountry.
