At the south side of Kailua Kona on Hawaii’s Big Island is the small ahupua’a of Keauhou, which contains Kanaloa. The shallow shoreline here creates breaking waves with even small ocean swells, creating a white canvas of bubbles and crashing wave sounds day and night.
This dynamic set up builds beautiful sunsets. A small walking path along the coast and a well-manicured golf course to one side add to the viewing enjoyment. Apart from those two kept areas, the shoreline is rugged and those of us hiking in slippahs end up wishing we had worn shoes.
The end of day event–the sunset dipping into the sea–is worth the short walk and occasional lava rock in the heal.
