Hana Maui Plantation

Hana Sugar Plantation, Maui

The small town of Hana, Maui is pictured here from a sugar plantation in an archive photo from around 1885. Those with a keen eye will be able to pick out structures and landscapes that are still in place today.

In 1885, Hana was bustling, as compared with other Hawaiian towns at the time. Known as a fishing village, it also has sugar plantations like the one seen here. And, as expected, the main mode of transportation at the time was walking…unless you had a horse.
