The Waipio Valley overlook is the stuff of movies. Fed from streams falling over 1000 foot waterfalls, the valley river has etched dramatic walls flowing into a delta that meets the Pacific ocean.
This lush area has a great beach, beautiful hiking, horseback riding, surfing, and one-of-a-kind locals.
In an effort to save engines and transmissions, many Big Island rental car companies prohibit driving down the incredibly steep valley road. Regardless of where your car came from, it is required to be four-wheel drive to gain entry.
Most people simply take in the site from the viewpoint, but we encourage you to go into the Waipio Valley itself and explore!
