We have always been intrigued by rays of sunshine that become visible underwater, creating shafts of light the poke into the darkness. Here, under the sea at Mahinahina Beach, Maui is just such a scene. In Hawaiian, “Mahinahina” means “Pale moonlight,” which seems appropriate even in full day when viewed from beneath the surface.
