Red Sand Beach, Hana

One of Maui’s most beautiful red sand beaches is Ka’iahalulu Beach, near Hana. Ka’iahalulu’s sand is striking against the tumultuous turquoise ocean. This secluded bay is a phenomenal place to relax and watch the waves pound along the beach.

The beach is remote, first requiring the 2- to 3-hour drive to Hana and then a moderate hike. As you make the walk, don’t be fooled by the first red sand beachlette that you see, this bigger beach is farther down the path.

Take note that the beach’s secluded nature provides the ideal environment for an occasional nude sun-bather. Also beware that the wave action here is high and extreme caution must be taken if you get in the water.
