Lobster Claw Flower

Lobster Claw Heliconia Flower

Hawaii has many beautiful Heliconia plants, but the Lobster Claw Heliconia (Heliconia Rostrata) is unmistakeable in its colors, shape, and florescence.

Although it originated in Ecuador and Peru, this hanging flower can now be found throughout Hawaii. Lobster claw is related to the banana and Bird of Paradise plants.

The heliconia pictured here was captured at the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens near Hilo, Hawaii.
