A beautiful bunch of lovely Lehua flowers bloom bright red against a backdrop of green on the island of Kaua’i.
Found in Waimea Canyon, where water and wind make daily appearances, these flowers bear out the story of Lehua Ohia throughout Hawaii.
From the Photographer:
“I took the picture of these Lehua flowers up in Waimea Canyon on Kauai.” – Goldie Cross
The fine, hair-like stamens of the Lehua are prized for use in lei, like the official lei of the Big Island that includes Ohia Lehua in it. It is said that stamens were used by Hawaiians to reduce pain in childbirth, owing to their connection to the goddess Pele.
