Kaohikaipu Island

Kaohikaipu Island, Hawaii

It is surprising to us how many beautiful images come from such a small stretch of shoreline on Oahu’s windward coast. The island itself makes up just a small fraction of the total Hawaiian chain coastline and the windward coast is about 30 miles worth of gorgeous scenery.

Here the small islands of Kaohikaipu (darker and in front) and Manana (taller and behind, also known as ‘Rabbit Island’) are seen standing not far offshore from Makapu’u Beach Park in a classic Hawaiian scene.

From the Photographer:

“Kaohikaipu Island is a small rocky island located just south of Manana island off the eastern windward coast of the island of Oahu. Kaohikaipu Island has been designated as a State of Hawaii protected bird refuge and access is limited to protect nesting birds and their habitat.”
