Hawaii Garden Spider, Argiope appensa

Hawaii Garden Spider

Hawaii’s beauty extends into its plants, animals, and even insects, like this Hawaii Garden Spider (Argiope appensa).

This female (identified by its black and yellow stripes as opposed to the male’s brown color) spun her web in an ohana garden. She measured about 2 inches across.

This species was introduced to the Hawaiian islands and are known elsewhere as banana spiders.
