Hawaii Steam Vent

Hawaii Fumeroles (Steam Vents)

Fumeroles, also known as steam vents, are found on Hawaii’s Big Island where molten rock flows close enough to the surface to superheat groundwater, turning it into steam and releasing it through underground pathways.

This all gives rise to foggy, eerie views surrounded by ferns, ohia trees, and sometimes large openings into the earth.

This photo was taken near the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Hilo side of the Big Island.
