Kealakekua Bay was the seat of Hawaiian royalty for some time. Several ali’i (chiefs) ruled from this very spot, included King Kamehameha the Great, who unified the Hawaiian islands into a single kingdom.
Kealakekua Bay is also where Captain Cook landed, dined, met with chiefs, played, repaired, left, returned, and died.
Additionally, it is now a marine life conservation district and home to several spinner dolphins pods.
Needless to say, it has a lot going for it, apart from being a spectacular sight.
