Gorgeous, soft sand stretches into the distance alongside a lapping sea under the kiawe tree on a Maui beach.
Kiawe trees were introduced to Hawaii fairly recently, but have taken hold of the islands, popping up just about everywhere. These hardy trees offer shade on the beach; however they often have long, sharp thorns that make enjoying them a bit difficult.
Big swells have brought white shorelines in the last several weeks, creating waves filled with air bubbles.
