An orange-spotted day gecko emerges from its hiding spot in search of food just in time for a photo opportunity.

Originally from Mauritius, like many gecko species in Hawaii it was introduced by humans and has since created several self-sustaining populations on the islands.

Seen mostly as a blessing, geckos are looked upon fondly because they help with bug control, particularly mosquitoes and moths. They have a soft chirp that adds to a tropical ambiance.
