Racing Hawaiian wa’a, or outrigger canoes, is the state sport of Hawaii. Its popularity has continued to burgeon and it is common to see teams and clubs practicing off most shorelines.
There are many canoe clubs on the islands and competitions throughout the year, culminating in championships for each.
People are drawn to the sport for different reasons–team, heritage, exercise, ocean, competition, fun, and more.
