Bouganvilla Bouquet

Bouganvilla Bouquet, Big Island

A wall of bouganvilla (pua kepalo) builds a bouquet on Hawaii’s Big Island. This South American shrub flower made its way to Hawaii over 100 years ago. Since then it has become a well-established landscaping plant used from roadsides to backyards.

This picture was taken at a Kona coffee farm where they use bouganvilla to add beauty to the fence-line in an arid region of the Kona coffee belt.
