One mile wide, fourteen miles long, and more than half a mile deep, Waimea Canyon on the island of Kaua’i is called the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific.”
In a lot of ways Waimea Canyon is like the Grand Canyon: red hillsides, deep canyons, long vistas, check. But in a lot of great ways, it is not.
Long lines of cars? Nope. Lots of people around? Nope. Parched land? Nuh-uh. Surfing and beach nearby? You betcha.
Personally, we prefer the Hawaii version.
