Hawaii is home to hundreds, if not thousands, of orchid varieties. One variety regularly seen on the islands is the Moth Orchid (Phalaenopsis), like this beautiful White Moth Orchid with a bright pink stigma.
The White Moth Orchid owes its name to the fact that it can look like a moth in flight. The scientific name Phalaenopsis means, “to look like.” In Hawaiian, orchid is said, “Okika.”
This particular variety has become popular for weddings, symbolizing purity and being worn by the bride.
