A beautiful bunch of red and yellow sage flowers in full bloom of alternating colors greets fortunate passers-by on the island of Maui. As the flowers blossom, they transform from a tight, square dome into soft, ruffle-edged petals.

Called kako in Hawaii, Red and Yellow Sage (Verbenaceae Lantana) is native to the American tropics and believed to have originated in the Texas Rio Grande. The flowers and leaves have been used for all types of home remedies, including anti-inflamatory, anti-itching, and even leprosy.
