In Hawaii sea turtles are different. Unlike other places in the world, Hawaiian sea turtles come ashore to nap and bask in the sun. We don’t blame them. It’s a great place to pause.
Here, a Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle (“honu” in the Hawaiian language) ambled up beach-side on a white sand beach at Kekaha Kai State Park. Honu are protected by law and have flourished since the regulation. They can be found near shore at just about any calm beach location in Hawaii, although each turtle seems to have favorite places to frequent.
