A wall made of surfboards is a colorful creation marking surf days past near Maui’s Peahi. Peahi, also known as Jaws, is a hugely powerful wave off Maui’s northern shore where those with big dreams–and big boards–go to catch the ride of a lifetime.

To catch this huge wave under human-only power (just paddling), surfers use longer, wider, and thicker boards to help them float on top of the water and be faster. Without enough speed the wave simply passes by, or worse, pitches would-be riders over a three story waterfall. These boards have lived to tell the tale.

This picture was treated with and HDR process by the photographer to highlight some of the detail.
