The Bitter Melon (momordica charantia) is a small spiky vine plant found around the Hawaiian islands. It was introduced and is more well
known in Africa, Asia, and Australasia.

It is one of the most bitter plants on earth, but is edible if cooked before it turns red or orange.  The orange fruit and seeds are toxic and should be avoided.
