Solo Surfing, Secret Spot
Photograph by Hawaii Picture of the Day
A lone surfer makes one of many bottom turns for the morning after catching a set wave in a hidden bay on Hawaii’s Big Island. Surfing alone on a break in Hawaii is many people’s dream, an uncommon occurrence, and the reason that bays like this one remain unpublicized, hidden, and only accessible to those in the know.
Off the Kona coast, this unexpected head-high swell with light offshore breezes (perfect surfing conditions) was capitalized on only by those able to see it firsthand and call in for a “sick” day. With 80 degree glassy water in a cloudless sky, who wouldn’t want to ditch for a day?
