Purple Passion Flower

Purple Passion Flower

A light purple passion flower presents itself in front of its climbing vine at the Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo & Gardens outside of Hilo, Hawaii. This plant is responsible not only for beautiful blooms, but also the tasty food called passionfruit.

The Passion Flower is formerly named Passiflora and it is part of the passion vines family. There are hundreds of species in this family, producing many differently colored and sized blossoms.

The Passion Flower can be found throughout the world in tropic climates and several nations have their own native varieties. Because of the way the flower is made, it relies on huge bumblebees or small birds for pollination.
