Two paragliders circle the beach while coming in for a landing on the Big Island of Hawaii.
This spot on the west side of the Big Island attracts paragliders due to the right geography and weather that create the updrafts they need to stay aloft.
The flight area is near Kealakekua, which means, “The path of the Gods.” Local story says this place was named this because of waterspouts (dust-devils made of water) that form and travel up the mountainside with the draft. Reaching from the clouds to the ground, these spouts looked like a path used by the gods to travel between heaven and earth.
