A short drive from Lihue or Kapa’a on Hawaii’s island of Kaua’i are the ‘Opaeka’a Falls. This waterfall flows year round from the waters of the north branch Wailua river.
Although there is not a trail to get down to the waterfall’s base, there is a well-built overlook on Kuamo’o road with good views of the waterfall and of the Wailua river valley on the opposing side.
The falls face toward the east, so sunrise is a great time to see ‘Opaeka’a falls when long shadows and glistening lines highlight the several story high face.
