Lanikai Stars

Lanikai Hōkū (Stars)

We are used to seeing beautiful Lanikai in the daylight or even the early morning hours. This amazing shot, though, captures Oahu’s windward coast beach across twilight and into the evening, revealing the stars otherwise hidden behind a veil of light. Literally translated, “Lanikai” means “Heavenly Sea,” a fitting description for this picture of hōkū (stars) in place over the Pacific.

We love the contrast of the lighted sand and striped beach chair against the coming night sky. On the horizon, the twin islets of Nā Mokulua are barely visible, blending into the darkening sky.
