Kula Maui Sunset

Kula, Maui Sunset

Found on the western slope of the dormant Haleakala volcano, Kula, Maui looks out across the valley to the West Maui Mountains. From this same vantage point one can see both the north and south sides of Maui at its narrowest spot.

“Kula” itself means, “open meadows” in Hawaiian. This typically arid spot is cooler than much of Maui and grows large deciduous and evergreen trees. Many residents of the island prefer to live here, away from the hustle, bustle, and heat of the valley and the shores.

From the Photographer:

“A gorgeous sunset taken from Thompson Road in Kula, Maui”

Today you will find the Kula area filled with ranches, paniolo, lavender farms and agriculture beside the small, warm communities.
