Kauai Coast

The steep pali coastline of Kauai is unmistakable. These sharp cliffs, lush hillsides, rolling waves, and sunset views characterize this side of Kauai. For those reasons and more it is well-known around the world through magazines, advertisements, and even movies.

The beaches here are soft, fairly large, and filled with golden sand. They face to the north, making them subject to potentially big ocean swells and some monster waves can be seen from the shoreline, particularly in the winter.

About Corrie Woods

We recently traveled from our hometown in western North Carolina to Hawaii to immerse ourselves in the Hawaiian ukulele culture. My husband builds custom ukulele and guitars and we attended the Ukulele Contest in Honolulu, the Ukulele Picnic and visited many ukulele builders. When we returned home I posted a bit of a travelogue for our readers entitled Ukuleles, Luthiers and the Aloha Spirit: http://lichtyguitars.com/2013/02/19/luthiers-ukuleles-and-the-aloha-spirit/.

  1. So this shot is not actually the Pali (Na Pali). This is the view across Hanalei Bay of Mt. Makana (aka Bali Hai). The Na Pali coast is on the other side of these mountains. This particular shot shows the view from the St. Regis Hotel in Princeville.
