Maui Kamaole Beach

Kamaole Beaches, Maui

South Maui is not as well known for its beaches as the West Maui shoreline of Ka’anapali. Even so, South Maui boasts some of the island’s most beautiful spots with long, sandy shores, whale-watching, and great snorkeling.

One of those spots–or three in a row actually–is Kamaole Beach Park I, II, and III. From these smaller beaches you get a view like the one pictured here. Calm mornings and calmer afternoons than much of the rest of Maui, the winds do not typically pick up here until a little later in the day.

This makes for great snorkeling and sunbathing in the summer, and great whale-watching in the winter. In the afternoons, as the wind picks up and the seas become choppy, many people retreat from the beach to the shopping and dining found right across the street in downtown Kihei or Wailea.

From the Photographer:

“I took this pic last summer in Maui. Since then i fall in love with Hawaii can’t wait to go back. I love the pictures you guys post everyday, thank you! Happy New Year from New York!”
