Ka’iahalulu Beach, near Hana, Maui stuns onlookers with dark red sand against a moving turquoise backdrop. The beach is off the beaten path and requires a bit of a hike to reach. This means that you’re more likely to get the beach to yourself, or to see others who thought they may have it all to themselves (think in the buff).
Waves pound along the beach here, meaning it is only for the most advanced swimmers who are familiar with the spot and its currents. On land, you can adventure around Ka’iahalulu and watch as the surf rolls over black lava rock and across the rust-colored beach. It is a nice spot to relax, pack a picnic, and stand in awe of the ocean’s color and power.
