The sun rises over Ho’okipa beach, bringing the West Maui Mountains into relief while illuminating restless waves winding through lava rock and warming the soft golden sand.
Striations in purplish clouds in the sky above reveal early morning signs of strong winds on the way–typical for Maui and especially this famous northern-facing beach. Here, the early-bird is blessed with calm conditions, while late-comers see the wind blown peaks of waves being ridden by kite surfers. For now though, the island awakes gently and invites us to enjoy another opening scene.
