Kona Coffee Cherry

Most of us don’t really think about where our morning cup of coffee originates. Those who have had a cup of Kona coffee, though, have probably thought, “Wow, where did this come from?”

The answer is the Big Island of Hawaii’s Kona coast mountains.

Before the coffee is hand-picked, shelled to the bean, and roasted, it is called “cherry” for its red color when ripe. Pictured here as cherry on its tree, Kona coffee grows in just the right conditions of temperature, rain, soil, and temperature changes to produce incredibly sweet, rich coffee.
