Hanalei Bay Kauai Overlook

North Kauai spreads out to encircle the ocean at Hanalei Bay. This half-circle bay is about a mile across and offers surfing, stand up paddling, fishing, and boating.

The shoreline’s sand is has an orange hue and is composed of larger grains than some beaches, however it is still pleasant to walk on barefoot.

The entire bay is surrounded by gorgeous cliffs, waterfalls, and steep hillsides covered in dense green tropical plants. In the Hanalei Valley, the river feeds nearby taro (kalo) fields, growing the staple crop of historic Hawaii.
