Ulua Beach tends to be described as “great,” “wonderful,” and even “my screen saver.” Known for its family-friendliness and excellent snorkeling, it is also one of those beaches that is just a joy to take in.
In the resort-filled and largely private Wailea area of Maui–where Ulua sits–one finds some of the most beautiful, well-kept beaches on the island. Of course all beaches are public access, as they are for all of us to enjoy and protect.
From the Photographer:
We stayed at the Wailea Marriott so went to this beach one afternoon. I like it better than Wailea beach as I find it to be less crowded and more peaceful.
“Ulua” means either a jack (or crevalle, a type of game fish), or sweetheart depending on the context. We’re not aware of the context here, so you can decide. Knowing that this is a terrific snorkeling spot that hosts the large fish near shore, we could argue for jack. But, one look at the picture and it is easy to understand that sweetheart fits as easily.
