A bright yellow Plumeria flower stands out in sharp contrast to the muted red and green buds on its branch that have not yet bloomed.
This plumeria was an early bloomer at the local Maka’eo garden at Old Airport State Park in Kailua Kona on Hawaii’s Big Island. Seeing the first to bloom always creates a great anticipation of the rest to come.
There are hundreds of varieties of plumeria on the islands, several of which are represented in this garden.
