Maui’s bamboo forests in the eastern section of Haleakala National Park create a mysterious, fun environment. Brought to the islands many years ago, the bamboo grows tens of feet tall on the wet Hana side of the island.
This picture was able to capture the waxing half moon between leafing bamboo shoots on a clear blue day.
In some parts of the national park and the surrounding reserves and roads, entire forests of bamboo can be found.
