A sailboat cruises the channel between Maui, Lana’i, and Moloka’i on what is left of the day’s wind. During the day, Auau Channel comes alive with chop and spray from strong winds squeezing between the islands. The evening, though, brings a welcome respite and calm seas.
This channel is home to many competitions for outrigger canoeing, kayaking, surfing, stand up paddling, and even swimming. It also plays host to hundreds of humpback whales during the winter mating season.
From the Photographer:
“The Auau Channel in between Lana’i and Maui is calm and tranquil at twilight. Aloha!”
